Currency

Most banks are open 9:30am-4:00pm Monday-Thursday and 9:30am-5:00pm Friday. Some banks have extended hours and a few banks are open on Saturday/Sunday. Most hotels/banks provide currency exchange services, however, better rates can generally be obtained elsewhere.

Electricity
Australia operates on a Type I electrical socket. The system is 240V, 50hz current.

Adapters are widely available, but make sure that your transformers and chargers are able to handle the voltage. Transformers are very difficult to find in Sydney, so be sure to purchase one before you travel.

Health
There are no real health risks associated with coming to Australia. Tap water can be drunk without boiling or treatment, restaurants are required to maintain minimum standards by law, sickness and disease is well maintained and there are strict rules to ensure that the health of Australians and foreigners is protected.

Shopping
Most major shopping centres in Sydney are open from 9:00am-5:30am, Monday to Friday, with extended hours on Thursday night - usually to 9:30pm. Large shopping centres are generally open on weekends from 8:30am-4:00pm. For more specialised shopping or market style shopping, such as The Rocks Market, Paddy's Markets, Flemington Markets or Paddington Markets, it is best advised to check the operating hours beforehand.
